In this World War II thriller, a team of Allied intelligence officers plans a perilous rescue mission in Nazi-occupied Norway.
A team of Allied intelligence officers, led by the British Lieutenant Colonel Shelley Flynn (David McCallum) and his American counterpart Colonel Calvin Turner (Hal Holbrook), must mount a dangerous rescue operation. Their target is Professor Ivar Thoresen (Julian Glover), a brilliant scientist being held by the Germans in occupied Norway. The mission is complicated by a critical uncertainty: they do not know if the professor is a willing collaborator with the Nazis or a captive forced to aid their war effort. The team must infiltrate enemy territory and extract Thoresen before his knowledge can tip the balance of the war.
A quintessential 1980s transatlantic co-production, ’92 Grosvenor Street was engineered for broad international appeal. The teleplay uses the framework of a ‘men-on-a-mission’ wartime adventure, a popular and durable genre. By casting American star Hal Holbrook alongside a roster of familiar British talent, including David McCallum and Patricia Hodge, the production secured its commercial viability. Despite its London-centric title, the narrative’s focus on a daring raid in Norway places it firmly in the tradition of classic World War II thrillers, prioritizing suspense and moral ambiguity over large-scale action.
