An anthology of dramatic vignettes, each introduced by a pair of recurring storytellers.
This anthology series presents a different self-contained story each week, introduced by two recurring narrators known only as the Storytellers (Ronald Simpson and William Fox). The individual playlets, featuring a new cast for each instalment, included titles such as “An Eye For Detail”, “A Deal in Diving”, “The Nayalpore Emeralds”, and “Diamond Cut Diamond.”
This series was constructed around a simple and traditional framing device: two hosts introducing a new playlet each week. The format, credited to writer Berkeley Mather, allowed for a variety of genres to be presented under a single banner. Produced for the still-young BBC television service, the series relied on the classic appeal of the well-told short story. The use of recurring storytellers provided a consistent thread through a collection of otherwise disconnected episodes, an economical solution for early television production.
