A 2-series, 10 episode, BBC One children’s sitcom in colour.

In the 25th century, the interplanetary merchant vessel Voyager conducts its trade across the cosmos under the command of its erratic and domineering main computer, SID. The human crew, nominally led by Captain Webster, must endure SID’s unpredictable piloting through asteroid fields and time warps. Their chaotic voyages are complicated by encounters with figures such as the bumbling inventor Dinwiddy Snurdle, space pirate Chief Murphy, and a 20th-century woman, Miss Appleby, who is accidentally brought aboard.

From the creator of Rentaghost, Bob Block, this science-fiction comedy relied on character-based humour and studio-bound scenarios. Its most distinctive element was the vocal performance of Kenneth Williams as the unstable computer SID and its counterpart, Junior. Jeremy Swan served as both producer and director for the programme’s two-series run on BBC1.
