The 21st Century Show (BBC 1979)

An untransmitted comedy pilot from two-thirds of The Goodies, mixing sketches and variety acts.

An untransmitted sketch and variety special from writers Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie. Narrated by Graeme Garden, the programme was built around a series of comedic performances from a cast including Henry McGee, Ann Hamilton, and Andrew Ray.

A footnote in the careers of The Goodies’ writers Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, this pilot was produced by the BBC but never broadcast. Scheduled for transmission in April 1979, it was ultimately shelved for reasons that remain undocumented. Its existence is confirmed by production paperwork and the survival of two separate edits, but it remains one of the more obscure unmade programmes in the BBC’s comedy archive.
