The Alec Finlay Show (ITV 1959)

A short-run variety series from Scottish Television built around the popular comedian.

This light entertainment programme was a vehicle for the Scottish comedy star Alec Finlay. As host, Finlay was joined by a troupe of regular performers for a mix of comedy sketches and musical numbers. The supporting cast included Stan Mars, Ethel Scott, Peter Fardy, and Bond Rowell.

Produced for the Scottish Television region, this series was not broadcast across the full ITV network. The programme’s scheduling was typical for regional entertainment of the period: the four episodes were transmitted live and fortnightly, alternating in the Friday night slot with the country dance show ‘Jig-time’. Like much live, regional television from this era, recordings of the series are not known to survive, and detailed production information is scarce.

Broadcast: ITV – Scottish Television, 4 Episodes, 25 September – 6 November 1959
Main Cast: Alec Finlay (Host), Stan Mars, Ethel Scott, Peter Fardy, Bond Rowell
