A single comedy play concerning the eccentric inhabitants of a single household.
This play features Betsy Coppard (Avice Landon) and Edwin Coppard (Sydney Tafler). The domestic situation also involves Emily Pickford (Joan Hickson) and Cornelia Wallace (Gillian Lind), with events eventually requiring the attention of Police Sergeant Pritchard (Wensley Pithey).
Broadcast live from the studio, The Amorous Goldfish is an example of the single television play in its theatrical, ephemeral form. As was common for the era, the production assembled a large cast of experienced character actors, many drawn from the stage, to perform Michael Voysey’s 90-minute script. The play was transmitted only once, and no recording is known to exist, making it one of the thousands of television broadcasts from the period that survive only in broadcast logs and printed schedules.
