Play. A topical drama attempting to dissect the moral panic surrounding the Teddy Boy subculture. The plot is a provocation: a young woman named Trina arranges to meet five different rivals at the end of a pier, then hides to watch the inevitable brawl. James Forsyth’s script uses this event as a framework to investigate the social conditions and personal frustrations that fuel such youth movements. The production is notable for its director, the German theatre innovator Peter Zadek, who was then making his mark on British television. The cast features an early, pre-stardom appearance by Peter O’Toole.
